Intervals – Time tracking, Task management and Project management tool

Tell us about Intervals and how did you got the idea to work on such a product?

Our company was founded in 2000 as a web development company.  Intervals was originally an internal project to help us manage our client work more efficiently.  We built Intervals to solve our own struggles juggling a lot of projects and details and billing for all of our time.  After using it internally we had some other companies want to use it, so we made it publicly available in 2006 and it quickly grew and became our primary business.

We are a small business ourselves and have a passion for helping other small businesses be more efficient and successful.

List some of the best features of Intervals.

Time tracking and tracking time on the actual tasks you work on.  This may sound minor, but it is not.  When you track time on the actual things you are working on you are more likely to track time and you get a much better idea of exactly where your time is going.

– Task management

– Work request queue

– Project management

– Document storage with versioning

– Invoicing

– Milestones

– Powerful reporting to look at where all of your time is going and the financial value of that time

How benefitial is Intervals for businesses?

If you need to track and bill for your time Intervals can literally be a business saver.  When we talk to our customers many of them increased their billing, grew their team, or eliminated inefficiencies.

Tell us in detail about Invoice and API feature.

With invoices in Intervals there are two ways to create invoices.  A free form invoice has whatever line items you want.  These are often used for retainers and flat bids.  The second way to create invoices is based on actual work performed.  With Intervals creating invoices based on actual work performed is unlike any other invoice creation system out there.  There is a ton of flexibility with this method and you can invoice by task, milestone, person, and include the details of every time entry.

With our invoices based on actual work performed there is very little questioning from clients when they are invoiced. They know exactly where the time went.

API – the API allows our customers and third party developers to interact with Intervals account data and build custom features on top of their account data.

Tell us about your pricing strategy

One of the things that sets our pricing apart is all of our plans included unlimited users.  We do not penalize our customers for adding more users.

Most of our customers are small businesses and this gives them the ability to add all of their employees and subcontractors without increasing their monthly price.

Our pricing is based on a combination of active projects and document storage needs.  Only active projects count against the tier total.  When a project is complete it can be set to inactive which archives it.  If the customer needs to work on that project again they can activate it with a single click.  Our subscription model is month to month with no long term commitment or contract.  Our customers can move up and down the pricing tier on a given month depending on their workload.
